Home/Technical Glossary/Micro TIG Welding Micro TIG Welding Tungsten inert gas (TIG) welding uses a non-consumable tungsten electrode to produce the weld. The weld area is protected from contamination by use of an inert cover gas (argon or helium). A filler metal is normally used, though some welds, called “autogenous welds,” don’t require it. Micro TIG welding is a non-contact process which does not need to apply force to create proper part fit up; it produces high quality welds with minimal heat affected zone by generating arcs between the workpiece and the tungsten electrode, and using the resultant heat to create the joint. Unlike resistance or ultrasonic welding, micro tig welding is capable of joining dissimilar metals
