Sr. Electronics Technician

SUMMARY

The Sr. Electronics Technician will be working in the Quality Service and Support Department, a manufacturing environment that is fast-paced and challenging.  The individual in this position must have a good eye for detail. A flexible schedule is required as periodic demands require overtime, (including some weekends).  AMADA WELD TECH produces manufacturing equipment which includes welders, solder reflow systems, laser welders, laser markers and complete automated welding systems.

DUTIES

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Employees must spend over 50% of their time on these duties.

  • In-process and final inspection of electronic, optical, electromechanical and mechanical assemblies.
  • Calibration of electronic, optical and mechanical assemblies.
  • Troubleshooting to the component level.
  • Repair of electronic, optical and mechanical assemblies.
  • Soldering/de-soldering of through-hole and SMT components at a high level of quality.
  • Customer support via phone and E-mail.
  • Periodic travel to customer’s facilities to perform repairs/do training. Must be able to travel internationally.
  • Responsible for new product testing. This will include software/hardware testing, documentation review and report writing.
  • Other projects and tasks as assigned by the Company from time to time

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Must have 5-7 years of related experience and at least a BSET or AS Degree in electronics.

  • Must be able to work overtime.
  • Proficiency with electronic test equipment including oscilloscopes, digital multi-meters, signal generators and counters.
  • Must be proficient in the safe handling of high-power/high-current electronics.
  • Some of our equipment operates on 650 Volts with primary currents as high as 4000 Amps.
  • Must possess a strong working knowledge of analog/digital electronics, and testing and troubleshooting of electro-mechanical systems.
  • A can-do attitude, excellent analytical skills including attention to detail and follow through, and the ability to research and solve problems.
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal.

Salary range: $22 -$30 per hour

Field Service Engineer

SUMMARY

This person is responsible for installing and servicing resistance welding, laser welders, laser markers, and systems equipment; handling customer inquiries related to applications or processes development using our products. Travel to support these tasks will be worldwide.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Installing, aligning, servicing lasers, resistance welders, and workstations with PLCs and motion control hardware and software
  • Making changes to PLC and motion control programs
  • Training customers in the use and maintenance of our products
  • Answering telephone inquiries regarding product operation, maintenance, and applications
  • Writing field visit and customer inquiry reports
  • Work with customers and other visitors on applications development in-house
  • Other tasks and projects as assigned by the management of AMADA WELD TECH INC. from time to time

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS

  • 4 year degree in engineering, materials, physics, chemistry or related discipline.
  • Good customer interface, verbal, and written communications skills
  • Good practical electrical and mechanical troubleshooting knowledge
  • Logical analysis of technical problems, ability to understand problem as described by customer
  • Proficient PC computer skills including Microsoft Office products
  • Lift and carry 50 pounds
  • Significant travel by air and car (in excess of 75% of the time).
  • Coordinate work and appointments with headquarters. Take care of our customers.

Desirable

  • Manufacturing, laser, materials processing and/or resistance welding background or experience
  • Ability to read, write and speak Japanese.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Experience in maintenance of industrial control equipment; preferred
  • Exceptionally computer literate
  • Computer programming experience; experience in industrial control equipment preferred
  • Experience in customer service or field engineering is a plus
  • Experience in motion control to include M and G codes; preferred
  • Ability to learn and read ladder logic.
  • Experience in training customers in the use of capital equipment; preferred.
  • Able to travel domestically and internationally on short notice

Sr. Technology and Support Engineer

SUMMARY

Review incoming communications (e-mail, phone and chat) from customer on issues. Provide information as requested, conduct phone and on-line support to resolve issues. Determine if a field service visit is required, what parts are needed on-site for that visit and what skill sets the field engineer needs to be successful. Provide information to field service coordinator to quote visits and assist with scheduling field service visits. Investigate product complaints at customer sites, perform root cause analysis of failures, and propose remediation in a timely fashion.  Analyze complaint data and generate prioritized actions to address shortcomings associated with the company’s products and services. Provide technical information and documentation as needed to support field engineer’s visits.

Work with field service coordinator to close open issues/tickets to assure that all customer requests are resolved. Determine long- term training needs for department and help to coordinate training.  This position reports to field service supervisor.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or related technical field
  • Minimum five years’ experience in Engineering/Field Service role
  • Minimum two years’ experience in working directly with customers in Engineering/Field Service role
  • Ability to support multiple projects throughout each day
  • Build early concepts of corrective designs and thoroughly test
  • Solid technical understanding of modern digitally controlled production equipment

REQUIREMENTS

  • Confer with customers to address questions, problems or requests for service on equipment.
  • Review technical information, obtain details from internal sources, determine appropriate level of information to provide to customers and communicate that information to customers.
  • Review existing product design, identify weaknesses, propose, implement and monitor effectiveness of improvements.
  • Provide real-time phone support for customers’ engineers working on machines.
  • Provide remote access support for customers’ PC controlled machines.
  • Determine when remote support is insufficient and on-site support is required.
  • Work with Field Service Supervisor and coordinator to schedule field service visits and rearrange customer visits when required for urgent support needs.
  • Determine what tools and spare parts are required and coordinate their delivery to customer site to coincide with field service engineer visit.
  • Provide technical information and support to field engineers during their customer visits.
  • Create strategy for verification of the corrective design and participate in verification activities.
  • Perform all duties in compliance with quality management systems; actively contribute to the continuous improvement of product.
  • Other tasks and projects as assigned by the management of Amada Weld Tech from time to time
  • No more than 25% travel with such travel scheduled in advance.

Sales Engineering Manager

SUMMARY

This highly important position in the company crosses engineering, sales, marketing, and management. This person oversees the day-to-day operation of our technical center in terms of equipment and personnel. Although largely tactical, this position has a direct influence on the strategic direction of the company.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Manage the day-to-day operations of the Western Technical Center

  • Coordinate application sample schedule to meet customer expectations
  • Review incoming application samples and paperwork to determine technical suitability
  • Manage lab resources to minimize sample turnaround times and optimize workflow
  • Manage and schedule paid work activities
  • Schedule and host customer lab visits
  • Manage lab expenses to stay within the approved budget
  • Ensure safe lab working conditions and that the team is trained in safety protocols
  • Other projects and tasks as assigned by the company from time to time

Provide technical support for the sales team and customers

  • Provide phone, email, and webinar-based technical support to sales managers, company representatives, customers, and other departments
  • Support annual sales meetings with laboratory workshops and presentations
  • Develop and present PowerPoint presentations for internal and external training purposes
  • Work with system engineers to help with machine design concepts for specific applications
  • Train customers and staff on equipment operation and process development

Provide technical support for the marketing team

  • Develop and present webinars on various technical subjects including process fundamentals, use and application of equipment, process troubleshooting, and DOE’s
  • Produce and participate in company videos on applications and other technical subjects
  • Write technical articles and blogs about our technologies
  • Provide technical information for social media posts – highlighting lab capabilities, training options, and paid application work
  • Attend domestic tradeshows and work the booth
  • Identify trending applications and opportunities for company growth

Applications

  • Occasional completion of various welding and soldering applications and writing detailed reports of results including recommended suitable equipment for the customers to use for their applications
  • Occasional performance of customer equipment buy-offs to prove the system will process parts to customer satisfaction

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS

  • BS in Electrical Engineering or other engineering degree preferred
  • 5 years of management experience in a technical company
  • Experience in application laboratories a plus
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • Good interpersonal skills to interact with multiple levels of people in an organization (operator to CEO)
  • Strong time management skills and ability to multitask
  • Excellent computer skills and demonstrated ability in PowerPoint, Word, and Excel. Experience with Salesforce CRM is a plus.

REQUIREMENTS

Job location:

  • Monrovia, California. This position is required to be on-site to manage team, facility, and equipment.

Travel:

Automation Engineering Manager

SUMMARY

The Systems Department of AMADA WELD TECH INC. provides integrated systems to our customers using the Define-Design-Deliver philosophy. These systems include a broad range of advanced technologies integrated into a machine or workstation to provide precise robust manufacturing solutions for customers.

The Automation Engineering Manager for the Systems Department is responsible for managing the software and electrical engineering engineers. The Automation Engineering Manager will have a proven background in leading engineers in electrical, automation, and software development.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Engineering:

  • The Automation Engineering Manager is the technical lead for the Systems Software and Electrical Engineering Groups. The manager has an expectation to handle portions of the Systems Software Groups programming needs for customer order specific features and development projects as well as electrical engineering support and troubleshooting
  • The Automation Engineering Manager will be engineering controls for integrated system operation of motion and IO control, laser programming, machine vision, data collection and analysis, file management, dll creation, PLC code, human machine interfaces (HMI), production floor automation connectivity suites, and networking capabilities using graphical user interfaces (GUI) with real time implementation
  • Ability to understand UL, CE, and NFPA standards as applicable to Systems integrations and contract orders
  • Maintain and improve procedures for the release of electrical drawings for manufacture and assembly and the software release protocols
  • Other projects and tasks as assigned by the company from time to time

Project Engineering:

  • Work in and foster a team environment with other engineers, production, QA, test, materials control, contract management, and sales personnel
  • Prepare detailed engineering release documents and compliance documents
  • Develop and report on project and schedules for the Automation group of the Systems department.

Managing:

  • Lead the engineering team to develop innovative solutions
  • Create clear expectations of best practices when planning, engineering, and implementing projects
  • Set performance goals and provide regular feedback via informal and scheduled reviews
  • Facilitate meetings to effectively inform management and the team of project status

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • This position will lead three to eight direct reports with procedures providing guidance for twenty to thirty employees

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

  • Four year degree in computer science, engineering, physics, or related discipline
  • Three years+ experience in designing custom full stack desktop applications
  • Experience in designing custom machine vision applications
  • Two years+ experience in a leadership role
  • Attention to detail and being flexible to handle multiple tasks independently
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Exceptional organization and time management skills

Electro-Mechanical Assembler

SUMMARY

The Electro Mechanical Assembler is primary responsible for fitting and assembling electromechanical equipment and machines.

RESPONSIBILITIES

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Employees must spend over 50% of their time on these duties.

  • Performs any combination of following tasks to assemble mechanical or electronic components and subassemblies: Reads work orders, follows production drawings and sample assemblies, or receives verbal instructions regarding duties to be performed.
  • Perform electro mechanical assembly using small hand tools, soldering irons and crimpers.
  • Performs housekeeping and clean up duties upon completion of assigned tasks.
  • Other projects and tasks as assigned by the Company from time to time.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS

  • Two years’ experience as an assembler of electro-mechanical assemblies.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  •  J-STD-001 Certification preferred.
  •  Knowledge of IPC soldering and crimping standards a plus.
  • Two years experience as an assembler.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to occasionally work extended hours.
  • Good dexterity and skill in use of hand tools.
  • Good visual perception and ability to distinguish between colors.
  • Punctual and dependable attendance.

Senior Systems Engineer

SUMMARY

The Senior Systems Engineer will have a proven background in automation control and systems development and design. The Senior Systems Engineer is an experienced mechanical engineering designer with a proven record of delivering robust automation systems to customers.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Pre-sale conceptual design, schedule, and cost estimation of semi-automated industrial processing workstations
  • Detailed design of tooling, fixtures, layout of motion control components and other peripherals, electromechanical packaging
  • Conduct acceptance testing leading to customer sign-off on selected projects Project management role for selected projects from purchase order to shipment. Assume primary responsibility for successful completion of assigned projects.
  • Oversee construction and maintenance of design file and user documentation for complete system
  • Prepare engineering input for product release and support by other departments
  • Pre-booking conceptual design includes: mechanical layout of workstation, motion control components, and tooling; and with assistance from others, block diagram of electronic controls; flowchart of overall man-machine interaction and machine functions. Cost estimation includes estimation of NRE, RE, and direct material for custom portions; discussion with Production manager for estimation of assembly and test labor for custom portions.
  • Project schedule development using critical path method exemplar covering all tasks from PO to shipment including those for which others are responsible for performing. Represent the company in a professional manner to the customers, vendors, and other people and organizations outside the company.
  • Post-booking activities include: detailed design and documentation for custom portions of specific projects, re-using existing hardware and software subassemblies as much as possible to minimize engineering content of complete delivered system; provide written, testable specifications for new hardware and software components and assemblies, suitable for purchasing, production test, QA, and re-use in a commercial custom equipment environment. Provide consistent documentation package based on exemplar for design file, user manual, post-sale support, and transfer to standard product development team.
  • Coordinate acceptance test requirements, sample materials, laser application, machine readiness, customer visit schedule, and lab resources for acceptance tests. Manage acceptance test and handle all exceptions necessary to secure customer sign-off.
  • Project management includes establishment of the project team and reporting structure; setting and meeting customer’s and company’s expectations for main project parameters (cost, schedule, performance, and deliverables) from proposal to completion of acceptance testing; periodic communication of status of project expectations and potential changes in scope through reporting structure; coordinate activities of all participants in a matrixed environment as necessary to meet project commitments.
  • Specify design verification test requirements, and conduct, review and approve the results of such tests.
  • Prepare and conduct audience-appropriate design reviews to customer, engineering and management personnel
  • Provide technical supervision to designers and assembly technicians assigned to project.

Project Engineering:

  • Work in a team environment with other engineers, production, QA, test, materials control, contract management, and sales personnel
  • Further day to day coordination with Production Manager, Applications Manager, Systems Engineering Services support engineers, and Sales Manager as needed in Project Management role
  • Current-business-driven work cycles: Pre-booking: one week turnaround on concept sketches and estimation. Post-booking: PO to shipment typically 12 weeks
  • Design and documentation tools include SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Visio, MS Office Suite plus Project.
  • Engineering, documentation, machine shop, assembly, test, and applications lab resources are matrixed over multiple projects.
  • Will be responsible for concurrent projects
  • Report on progress, demonstrations, and changes
  • Provide detailed documentation for engineering release

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS

  • Four-year degree in Engineering
  • Three years+ experience in designing or specifying tooling, fixtures, layout of motion control components and other peripherals, electromechanical packaging as found in industrial automation systems. Preferred software tool, Solidworks.
  • Attention to detail and being flexible to handle multiple tasks independently.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Exceptional organization and time management skills.
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines while performing task accurately.
  • Self-motivated with a strong sense of ownership in all areas of responsibility.
  • Punctual and dependable attendance.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Formal project management training and experience
  • Communicate well orally and in writing with customers and others with whom he/she works with within and outside the Engineering department.
  • Able to prepare and deliver professional technical and educational presentations Work experience using SolidWorks, machine tools, and mechanical metrology equipment
  • Practical experience with professional engineering design and document control methodology
  • Demonstrated ability to design for long term support and modification
  • Ability to travel occasionally (2 weeks per quarter)

Salary range: $105k – $135k

Senior Systems Software Engineer

SUMMARY

The Senior Systems Software Engineer will have a proven background in automation control and software development.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Conceptual and detailed software design, coding, and testing of:

  • Pre-sale conceptual design, schedule, and cost estimation of software for semi-automated and fully automated industrial processing workstations
  • Software integrating system operation, motion control, laser programming and control, machine vision (Cognex, Keyence), data collection and analysis, file management, human machine interfaces (HMI) and networking capabilities using graphical user interfaces (GUI) with real time implementation
  • Structured, re-useable low-level motion control system code for Delta-Tau, Aerotech, and ACS motion systems implementing control system and I/O functions
  • DLLs for selected software-controllable systems components such as: data acquisition and controls, motion controllers, visions systems, lasers, data collection and report generators
  • Manufacturing floor automation connectivity software including LAN, database, and other standard interfaces and protocols
  • PLC code for Allen Bradley, Omron, Siemens, Mitsubishi, Sick and Pilz PLCs
  • Provide support for system acceptance testing conducted by project managers
  • Other projects and tasks as assigned by the Company from time to time

Project Engineering:

  • Work in a team environment with other engineers, production, QA, test, materials control, contract management, and sales personnel
  • Support and develop new software under direction of management
  • Prepare requirements document based on interview with customer and hardware engineers
  • Prepare interface and functionality documentation for software modules
  • Develop project plans and schedules for software development work
  • Report on progress, demonstrations, and changes
  • Provide detailed documentation for engineering release

Software Development Management:

  • Analyze and recommend improvements to our present software development and design control methodology

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS

  • Four year degree in computer science, engineering, physics, or related discipline
  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Seven years+ experience in designing custom motion control and HMI software
  • Three years+ experience in designing custom machine vision applications
  • Attention to detail and being flexible to handle multiple tasks independently
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
